TRICKY DECKS-Part2. Last time we discussed some practical deck waterproofing techniques employed at Prestige, when the decks have hard to reach corners, uneven surfaces or multiple railings etc. In this post, we will finish up our discussion of tricky decks and maintaining a waterproof goal.
Is your home custom? Perhaps it has brick walls that butt up against the area you want to waterproof? What should you do to eliminate leakage through the uneven and porous concrete and brick textures? How do you get a flush, tight seal?
A few months back the team at Prestige were faced with these very questions. Because one part of the wall was brick instead of stucco, it made the task more demanding. But this is precisely where 28+ years of experience pays off. The crew decided that they would go the extra yard and eliminate the potential for seepage from this wall, even though it was above the call of duty. Prestige = waterproofing, nothing less.
The supervisor got his creative juices flowing and devised a simple but ingenious solution. In order to insure that rain did not get behind the sealed deck, an overlap was created. The L-shaped base metal flashing could not be installed flush on the wall due to the uneven brick surface, so a secondary customized piece was mounted.

Then came a hitch in our plan. The seam from brick to base was not deep enough to mount securely. So we needed to increase the groove to accomplish a waterproof seal and aesthetic appeal. Not a problem for the boys at Prestige! Prestige “over plans” when it comes to supplies and tools, we know that readiness and flexibility are part of our daily task. The supervisor quickly retrieved a precision grinder and expertly crafted an appropriate seam to mount the overlap flashing. After applying industry standard caulking to adhere the seal, we had a match! To make sure it remained firmly in place, we reinforced it with high-powered nail gun.
Deck waterproofing with tricky decks is a touch and go proposition. It is not something to be feared…if you find a quality organization like Prestige to take care of your deck waterproofing needs.
